MEPHISTO S.A.

Mephisto is an internationally renowned shoe manufacturer that produces and internationally distributes brand name shoes for the city as well as for certain outdoor and fitness areas under the label of the same name. Shoes and sandals for women and men are offered under the brand names Mephisto, Mobils, Sano and Allrounders. The Mephisto S.A., formerly Martin Schuhe, was founded in 1965 by Martin Michaeli, a German who started his career very young in the US and wanted to start his own business in Europe on his return after several years. As location he decided for Sarrebourg in Lorraine. In 1972, Martin Michaeli invented the Mephisto shoe Rainbow, which was allegedly copied over 187 times by other companies. The headquarters of the group is the Lorraine city of Sarrebourg. Subsidiaries exist in the US (Nashville), Canada (Montreal), Japan (Tokyo) and Portugal (Viana do Castelo). The production sites in France and Portugal together produce about 20,000 pairs of shoes and sandals per day. Around 18,000 shoe shops sell Mephisto in more than 80 countries. Sales outside France account for 85%. A total of 2,800 people work at home and abroad to manufacture and sell Mephisto products
